Organisation: Scandinavian Children’s Mission

Scandinavian Children’s Mission was founded in 1983. It is a Christian organization working to improve conditions for poor and vulnerable children all over the earth.

Scandinavian Children’s Mission works with medical care, education, feeding and clothing children from poor areas. They are currently working in the following countries: Ukraine, Moldova, Philippines and Zambia.

In Ukraine, Scandinavian Children’s Mission works with improving conditions for poor and handicapped children that have been affected by the Chernobyl disaster in one way or another. They also do social work where they help vulnerable youngsters stay out of crime.

Scandinavian Children’s Mission started working in Ukraine in 1992. They work primarily with financing expensive operations in Sweden for children who are born with abnormalities due to radioactive exposure. Scandinavian Children’s Mission also educates Ukrainian doctors so that they are capable of treating children who are sick from radioactive exposure.

As well as educating doctors, Scandinavian Children’s Mission also finances medication in the children’s hospital in Lutks. Many of the children are suffering from tuberculosis, and their parents cannot afford medication. Likewise, Scandinavian Children’s Mission has paid for a renovation of the hospital because of a fungus attack that made conditions for the sick children even worse.
